French 8

Prerequisite: None

The key objective of the French 8 program is to build the student's French proficiency in all five areas of language learning: listening, speaking, reading writing and representing . There is a focus on communication with accuracy through an authentic cultural context. French is used to acquire information from French language resources for a variety of purposes. An authentic purpose engages the students in thoughtful learning that is meaningful and relevant to their lives.

French 9

Prerequisite: French 8

Increased emphasis is on all aspects of oral and written language used with communication skills. Knowledge of French culture is increasingly explored. Students are encouraged to develop an appreciation of Francophone culture.

French 10

Prerequisite: French 9

Increasingly sophisticated oral and written communication skills are studied. Students learn more advanced ways of communicating as they explore the past tense and future tense also. French culture continues to provide an important focus.

French 11

Prerequisite: French 10

Increased emphasis is on all aspects of oral and writen language used with converstional skills. Knowledge of French culture is increasingly explored. Students will communicate more and are expected to learn authentic accents and be able to understand written french work. The students again build their french vocab and understanding by looking more in-depth with expressions and verbs.

French 12

Prerequisite: French 11

Increased emphasis is on all aspects of oral and written language used with conversational skills. Knowledge of French culture is increasingly explored. Students will communicate more and are expected to learn authentic accents and be able to understand written French work. The students again build their French vocabulary and understanding by looking more in-depth with expressions and verbs (adding subjonctif présent and conditionnel passé). Students will be expected to express their ideas in written form more often.
