Music Teachers

MR. SHIER


New this year as music teacher at Moscrop is Mr. Robin Shier.  His professional training includes two years of study at Humber College in Toronto, and four years at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston where he received both his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees. He has also received a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of British Columbia.

From 1984-86 Mr. Shier lived in Halifax, working with Symphony Nova Scotia and performing numerous studio and freelance engagements.  In 1986 he moved to Vancouver where he has been very active in the music community as a freelance trumpeter.  He is in demand in all disciplines of music from jazz to classical, performing with the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, brass ensembles, big bands, and jazz groups.  His own jazz group, the Robin Shier Quintet, has toured Canada many times, performing in virtually every major city in the country.  The group has recorded both an LP and a CD for Unity Records.  Mr. Shier has also been an adjudicator at many music festivals throughout Western Canada. In addition to teaching at Moscrop, Mr. Shier is a music instructor at both Douglas College and Capilano College.  He received his professional teaching certificate from UBC.


MRS. RUNDELL


In her fourth year at Moscrop, Mrs. Rundell received her Bachelor of Music Performance from UVic and her Masters of Education from UBC. Mrs. Rundell comes from an orchestral background and was the conductor of the Kamloops Symphony for 8 years. At the time, Mrs. Rundell was the youngest and the only female conductor in Canada and when she left Kamloops Mrs. Rundell was honoured to receive the YMCA Woman of Distinction Award, as well as awards from the Province of BC and the Canadian Government for her work in the arts in Canada. While working as a professional conductor Mrs. Rundell had the honour to perform for the British Royal Family including Prince Charles, Princess Dianne and Prince Andrew and Harry.

Mrs. Rundell studied advanced conducting at the Banff School of Fine Arts as well as the world renowned Mozarteum in Salzburg Austria.  While in Austria, Mrs. Rundell had the wonderful opportunity to conduct the famous Prague Symphony.

After moving to Vancouver, Mrs. Rundell decided to become a school music teacher and completed her professional teaching certificate from UBC. She also completed a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and advanced studies in English Literature.

For the past 10 years Mrs. Rundell has enjoyed teaching in Burnaby while at the same time, her family has grown with the addition of her two beautiful daughters from China. Mrs. Rundell is an avid sports enthusiast who played college basketball, played for soccer for BC at the Canadian championships and who owned and show jumped horses in her younger years! Mrs. Rundell is currently Department Head of Fine Arts at Moscrop. 


As well as teaching in Burnaby Mrs. Rundell has been a festival clinician, honor band conductor, and has taught in the education department at UBC. She is an active member of the music education community and has served on many provincial music education committees.
