ESL Level 1 – Science Applications

This course is a basic introduction to science terms and procedures designed to help built students’ background knowledge of science vocabulary necessary to be successful at the secondary level.  

ESL Level 1 – Poetry and Novel Studies

This class exposes students to the structure and content of English short stories and novels.  This class also includes components of oral presentations, vocabulary development, writing and reading skills.

ESL Level 1 – Canadian History

This class is designed to expose students to the landscape, terrain, and regions of Canada.  Students will learn basic mapping skills, the provinces/territories and important facts about them.  Students will
study the different Native groups of Canada, the arrival of the Europeans, and the formation of Canada as a country.  Students will also learn about the Canadian flag, symbols, and government.  Canadian
holidays/traditions and their origins are also studied.

ESL Level 1 – Grammar

Basic grammar skills are learned from a proper text and applied through writing and speaking.  The following grammar structures will be covered: present tense, past tense, present continuous, past continuous, future tense, infinitives, modals, the conditional,  count/non count nouns, possessives, pronouns, comparisons and question formations.

ESL Level 2 – Canadian Studies

This course has been designed to help ESL students develop the skills and language required for the academic demands of Social Studies courses at the secondary level.  Studying Canadian geography, Canadian history, mapping skills, and current events will improve students’ reading, writing, and oral comprehension of the English language.

ESL Level 2 – Novels and Poetry

This course has been designed to help ESL students with the language required for the academic demands of a regular English class at the secondary level.  This class focuses on paragraph and essay skills, short story terms, novel units and an introduction to poetry.

ESL Level 2 - Grammar

This class has been developed to improve students’ English grammar through the use of text and application of these structures to various writing assignments.  Students will also develop more English vocabulary and improve their reading skills.
